And it's not worth dealing with all the problems it causes. If I ever beat the first Witcher game I'll update this guide when I start the 2nd game but I'm not planning on playing it anytime soon. If you'd like you can update this guide yourself, but don't feel obligated to do so. Guide Forum Thread. Hello there. My name is Synthetik and if you have found this from the STEP forums you don't know who I am check my post count and you'll know why.
This is my first attempt at ever writing a guide but I tried to make it as professional as possible and in the style of the other STEP guides.
The main goal of this guide is to make your The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition look as good as possible while improving the overall balance of the game and fixing some minor bugs that appeared in the Enhanced Edition. The guide will stay true to the vanilla look and feel of the game and simply further enhance it.
If you are wondering if your computer can handle it, then see if your PC meets the recommended specs below. There's not really much more for me to say so, let's just get started! Without the support of STEP, this guide would not be possible. If you would like to make a donation, that would be awesome! Do so with Paypal. It is advised to follow the guide in order it is written and to not skip any mods or steps.
You should not have any mods installed prior to using this guide, so if you do, uninstall any mods you have or just completely uninstall the game and make sure there are no other files in your old install directory before reinstalling. When copying or moving files or folders anywhere throughout this guide you should always: overwrite, replace, or merge when asked. Unless you are told to do so, don't launch the game until you have finished all the steps in the guide.
When you start to download the actual mods, the format of most STEP guides is used and is as follows:. The first thing we need to do is to delete your user. You will not lose any game saves or anything else as it only stores your graphics settings.
After you have deleted your user. Now start The Witcher 2 laucher and go to the options. Once the game starts, a framerate counter will appear in the corner of your screen and thus let you know that RTSS is working its magic for you!
As opposed to the above-mentioned GPU Control Panel tweaks, RTSS cannot apply its effects passively and needs to be manually started each time before launching your game of choice. Alleviate occlusion culling-related visual bugs and improve the accuracy of in-game shadowing NOTE: The following tweaks will cause your in-game "Shadow Quality" slider to reset to "Low".
This is perfectly normal and the game will actually make use of your tweaked values as long as you do not move that particular slider around anymore! All of the other graphics sliders can, however, be safely moved around without fear of overwriting the tweaks below. REDEngine 3 makes heavy use of occlusion culling to improve The Witcher 3's performance, but sometimes this might lead to visual bugs such as shadows popping in very close to Geralt, or sunlight streaming through windows that disappears altogether while moving in-doors.
To remedy these problems, navigate to your " Increase texture quality by enabling higher quality mipmaps NOTE: The game now appears to use this tweak by default, but it does not hurt to apply it to your "user. Navigate to your " You can see it in action here: true on vs. Remember to save your changes upon closing the "user. NuclearManx Rookie 5 Jan 15, Just a quick question to ask about tip 12 - the changes to the nvidia control panel settings regarding anisotropic filtering, gamma correction, and max pre-rendered frames: when changing those options it also changes other settings like clamping the negative LOD bias for instance.
Should I manually change them to their default setting again? RealNC Rookie 6 Jan 15, NuclearManx said:. Home Discussions Workshop Market Broadcasts. Change language. Install Steam. Store Page. Using these settings:- The game will be slightly darker, definitely enough to notice.
This combined with the improved lighting looks 10x more realistic than the vanilla game. The glow from fire is greatly improved as well. This takes a bit of the "washed out" look out of the game. Take note: these setting that I have created are all minimal, as to not change the original game too much and to not reduce game performance. I basically added JUST enough to make the improvements worthwhile and noticeable, but not enough to be overbearing. My goal was to set it up in a way that made it seem as if it was meant to be in the game, rather than something over-the-top.
Also, I set up all of the setting in a way that none of you guys should need to adjust your in-game gamma at all However, all monitors are different and mine is really bright so if necessary just make the adjustment to your liking.
